CITY CLOSURES DUE TO CORONAVIRUS

Concerns for citizens and visitors warrant closures

SHOW LOW, Ariz. (March 16, 2020) – COVID-19, commonly called the Coronavirus, is at a point where it is presenting considerable concern to our citizens and visitors. For this reason, the City of Show Low is taking proactive measures to reduce the spread of COVID-19. The City cares about the health of our residents, city employees, visitors and those who work in Show Low.

We are implementing certain closures out of an abundance of caution. All city facilities will remain staffed; however, in-person services will be limited until the risk subsides. Until further notice, the aquatic center, public library, senior center and city campus gym will be closed to the public. (The city campus gym will be open for voting in the Presidential Preference Election on Tuesday, March 17.) All critical services such as police protection, transit, court services, water and wastewater and solid waste pickup will continue to be fully available. Show Low is prepared to continue provide these uninterrupted services even if the virus spreads.

For those who normally frequent the library, e-resources, e-books and audio books are available through the Navajo County Library District at navajocountylibraries.org. Additionally, Show Low Public Library will be offering curb-side services to its patrons. For those who wish to check out items, including books, DVDs and magazines, please call the library at (928) 532-4070 to request the item(s) you wish to check out. Call again when you arrive at the library and staff will bring the items to you as you wait in your vehicle.

For those who need to make utility payments, we encourage you to call (928) 532-4000 to pay by credit card, pay online on the city’s website, or drop your payment in the drop box outside city hall.

Unfortunately, all library programs and recreation programs are cancelled until further notice. Please check the city’s webpage at showlowaz.gov and social media pages (Facebook, Instagram and Nextdoor) for further updates.

“WHO urges worldwide ‘solidarity’ against coronavirus: ‘We are all in this together'”

WHO urges worldwide 'solidarity' against coronavirus: 'We are all in this together'

“The World Health Organization (WHO) has called for worldwide solidarity in a bid to stop the spread of novel coronavirus as the number of cases and deaths across the globe not outnumber those occurring in China.

‘We have seen a rapid escalation in social distancing measures, like closing schools & canceling sporting events & other gatherings. But we haven’t seen an urgent enough escalation in testing, isolation and contact tracing, which is the backbone of the COVID-19 response,’ WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said in a press briefing on Monday.

Tedros, who said the agency’s message remains ‘test, test, test,’ called for isolation of positive patients, and for people who they had contact with for up to two days before showing symptoms to be tested as well.

He also called for confirmed cases, even those who are experiencing mild symptoms, to be isolated in health facilities to prevent transmission. In countries whose health systems are already overwhelmed by the virus, Tedros said patients with mild cases could be isolated and cared for at home.

‘People infected with COVID-19 can still infect others after they stop feeling sick, so these measures should continue for at least two weeks after symptoms disappear,’ he said. ‘Visitors should not be allowed until the end of this period.’

Tedros said the agency was also issuing new guidance for children, older people and pregnant women, and warned that even countries with advanced health systems are struggling to cope with this outbreak.

‘As the coronavirus moves to low-income countries, we’re deeply concerned about the impact it could have among populations with high HIV prevalence or malnourished children,’ he said. ‘We’re calling on every country and individual to do everything they can to stop transmission’

This includes, Tedros said, refraining from hoarding essential items like medicines and other products which ‘can exacerbate suffering.’

‘This is the defining global health crisis of our time,’ he said. ‘The days, weeks and months ahead will be a test of our resolve, a test of our trust in science and a test of our solidarity. Crises like COVID-19 tend to bring out the best and worst in humanity.’

He said the ‘amazing spirit of human solidarity must become even more infectious than the coronavirus itself.’

‘Although we may have to be physically apart from each other for a while, we can come together in ways we never have before,’ Tedros said. ‘We’re all in this together. And we can only succeed together.'”

“Fox News election town hall with Trump is most watched in cable history”

From www.foxnews.com, written by Brian Flood.

Town Hall with President Trump: Part 2

“Fox News’ town hall with President Trump on Thursday was the most-watched election town hall in cable news history, according to early Nielsen media research.

The event co-moderated by Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum averaged 4.2 million viewers from 6:30-7:30 p.m. ET. The record-setting town hall dominated cable news, topping MSNBC’s 1.4 million viewers and CNN’s 1 million viewers combined.

Fox News also beat CNN and MSNBC combined in the key news demographic of adults age 25-54, averaging 744,000 during the town hall.

Trump, speaking with Baier and MacCallum in Joe Biden’s hometown of Scranton, Pa., suggested that the new Democratic front-runner’s repeated gaffes could be a sign of a competency issue — honing a line of attack that Republicans are expected to repeatedly deploy if Biden becomes his party’s nominee.

The town hall covered an array of other topics, including stock market turbulence and deregulation. Out of the gate, Trump defended his administration’s response to the coronavirus outbreak, saying his decision to limit travel from China had averted a broader domestic crisis.”
